About Sylvania Senior Center

In 1978 Sylvania Senior Center joined Sylvania Community Services after being organized in 1974 as the Sylvania Action Interest League (SAIL), which met in a local church. Sylvania Senior Center was located at the Burnham building in the basement from 1978 to 2002. In 2002, the Senior Center moved to its current location at 7140 Sylvania Avenue. This ADA-accessible, senior-friendly facility was built by the City of Sylvania and Sylvania Township.

Sylvania Community Services continues to provide the staffing and management of the Sylvania Senior Center.

Funding Sources

Program fees fund activities and facility expenses of Sylvania Senior Center, the local Sylvania City and Township Senior Levy, a grant from the Area Office on Aging (that includes funds from a Title III-B grant under the Older Americans Act), State and Community Services Block Grant funds, the Lucas County Senior Services Levy, and donations to the center for its programs and services.

Booster Club

The Booster Club members are the backbone of the Sylvania Senior Center. Participants, their families, and community members are encouraged to become Sylvania Senior Center Booster Club members. The nominal membership donations help to defray operating costs. Members enjoy a monthly Booster Club Breakfast meeting with prize drawings and center updates.

Participant’s Council

The Participant Council is a group of Sylvania Senior Center participants who help to serve by assisting the center in achieving its goals. Any participant currently registered at Sylvania Senior Center is automatically a member of the Participant Council and has voting rights. Officers are elected annually. Quarterly meetings are on a Friday with the Booster Club Breakfast. Participant Council activities are varied and help raise funds for the center. For more information on meeting dates, check our calendar or call our office at 419.885.3913.
